Feyenoord Rotterdam – The Club
Feyenoord, founded in 1908, is a professional football club from Rotterdam, Netherlands. The club is historically one of the three clubs that have dominated the first tier of Dutch football, the others being Ajax and PSV. These three clubs and FC Utrecht are the only clubs never to have been relegated from the Dutch first division. In domestic competition, Feyenoord has won 14 Dutch Championships, 11 Dutch Cups and two Dutch Supercups, in addition to the European Cup, two UEFA Cups and the Intercontinental Cup, making it one of the most successful Dutch clubs.
Feyenoord are recognised as the Netherland’s most passionately supported club. Its stadium is commonly known as the De Kuip (‘the Tub’) with a 51,480 capacity is the second largest stadium in the country and has hosted many international fixtures including the final of Euro 2000.
Former players keep in close touch with Feyenoord, some adopting coaching roles. The club are very proud of them and they feature heavily in the museum (to be seen on the stadium tour). They include Robin van Persie, Dirk Kuyt, Pierre van Hooijdonk, Salomon Kalou and Ron Vlaar among many others.
The Training Facilities
Situated in the shadow of the De Kuip stadium, Feyenoord’s training ground includes one full size 3rd generation astro turf pitch plus three 11 a side pitches and one 7 a side pitch. There is also a full size pitch with small stadium for the academy and reserve teams to play their fixtures. The club is in the process of updating its training facilities.
The training ground is used regularly by the 1st team for training sessions which groups are able to watch subject to consent from the coaching staff. There are changing rooms and showers plus a large café and bar.
