PSV Eindhoven – The Club
PSV (Philips Sport Vereniging) Eindhoven, currently play in the Dutch Eredivisie and have never been relegated to a lower division.
The club was founded in 1913 as a team for Philips employees. PSV’s history contains two golden eras revolving around the UEFA Cup victory in 1978 and the 1987/88 European Cup victory as part of the continental treble in 1988. Throughout the years, PSV established itself as a stepping stone for future world class players like Ruud Gullit, Romário, Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Since its foundation, the club has played in the Philips Stadion and the club’s strong connection with Philips is displayed from its shirt sponsoring right through to board member ties. Fans have named themselves ‘boeren‘, which is Dutch for either peasants or farmers, taking pride in Eindhoven’s status of being a provincial city and their Brabantian heritage.
The Training Facilities
Inspiresport teams will train at PSV´s impressive training complex, ‘De Herdgang‘ located 5 kilometers north of the City Centre and the club’s Philips Stadium. It has been the home training ground for PSV´s senior squad since 1983. The youth and amateur teams have played their home matches there since 1992. De Herdgang underwent comprehensive renovation in 2002 and the club continues to update its training facilities to ensure the complex provides its playing and coaching staff with the very latest technologies available.
‘De Herdgang‘ consists of ten pitches, two of which are artificial turf, including the main pitch. A stand has been built at the Academy’s main pitch, with a capacity of over 200 people. ‘De Herdgang‘ is situated in large wooded area, where the players can prepare in a peaceful and private environment, whilst not being too far from the hustle and bustle of Eindhoven’s city centre.
Besides having the most advanced and up-to-date sports and training complexes, ‘De Herdgang‘ is also the base for administration staff, scouting department and all club coaches. There are eleven dressing rooms, physiotherapy suites and a base for the medical staff, including a consulting room. There is also a café bar & very busy laundry at the complex, tasked with keeping all the squads in clean playing and training kit on a daily basis.
